Hello there! ¡Hola!
There’s a woman who lives upstairs with vocal cords of steel. At any moment of the day – early morning when you’re just about to take a sip of your coffee, just closing your eyes after a big meal, or right when you get to that part of the dream where you’re about to win millions – you can hear the three syllables of her son’s name, tuned perfectly to draw attention like a general and somehow melodic like an angel.
Having only lived here in our Spanish apartment for a short time and not having officially met this family, I am pretty confident that I can tell you their names and what their footsteps sound like. I can also presume that the rest of the tenants who live here can do the same. Dare I say that maybe even those at the other side of the city know the family tree of those who live on the fifth floor?
And just like the woman who lives above us, I come politely screaming through my computer. Though our typeface won’t be as melodic or commanding, I hope to provide you all with a little more about us.
We are Katherine and Zach. Nice to meet you. We are both educators who taught Spanish in the United States for over 10 years combined. We know that in education, every day starts with tabula rasa and the early-morning commute can be all the lesson-planning you need (interspersed with karaoke/dance moves that are practically concert-ready). With that in mind, we created this space to share ideas, questions, and experiences that spark reflection and inspiration for fellow educators.
We hope one day that this little blog can reach those on the other side of the city. Maybe even the world?
All in all, we just want to thank you for joining us here for whatever this is that we’re about to create.
Welcome, neighbor.
Zach, May 2026
